FACT CHECK

Senate District 15 Voter,

I wanted to address the misleading and outright false attacks from my opponent. It’s disappointing that in a Democratic Primary, my opponent has resorted to Republican tactics to win an election. From the moment I decided to run for Senate District 15, I ran on my proven leadership and record from my time in the Texas House of Representatives and the Houston City Council. While in the Texas House, I’ve been on the frontlines with my colleagues fighting extremist Republicans while they attack immigrant communities, restrict Abortion access, attack LGBTQ communities, and our freedom to vote. My record is the reason why I have always had an F rating with the NRA. My record is the reason why I am a Planned Parenthood Legislative Champion, and have received a 100% Candidate rating for my Senate Campaign. My record is the reason why the largest teachers union in the State, Texas AFT, has endorsed my Senate Campaign. Check the facts here.

If the misleading and false vote record my opponent would have you believe is true, none of these highly respected organizations would have given me these endorsements or distinctions both during my time in office or for my Texas Senate campaign.

Governing is different from campaigning. In a Legislature controlled by extremist Republicans, Democrats have to strategize and use every play in the playbook to fight for our democratic values. Sometimes that means we amend legislation, that we may not agree with every aspect of, but we improve in some way and ultimately vote yes for the bill. This is why having an experienced lawmaker is vital for SD-15. We need someone who can negotiate across the aisle to ensure every corner of this community is represented, not just someone with good ideas.

My opponent provided citations for their misleading legislative record but failed to provide you with the legislative session information, which makes it all but impossible for voters to fact-check the claims themselves. I’m not afraid to stand on my record, so I fact-checked for you, check my votes here.

Sincerely,

Jarvis Johnson
